SAT targets the widening mind/body gap by creating a place where communication can occur through physical negotiation and users can consent to experiences of touch on a sliding scale of intensity; from acknowledging body weight transfers to skin-to-skin contact when sharing a hand hold. By re-invigorating the workplace with a moment where touch can be investigated and the physical body can reconnect with the intellectual mind, SAT helps workers to overcome the negative effects of touch hunger and, as Palassama states, “engage fully in the mental dimensions of dream, imagination and desire.”
SAT lives at the intersection of functional furniture and a therapeutic device. It is intended to be used as a leave-behind following the workshops, a reminder and continuing education tool to help employees to continue evolving their touch abilities.
